Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha along with MP Sandeep Pathak and MP Haris Beeran, raised the serious issue of the alarming rise in missing persons in the National Capital in Parliament.
Dr. Sahney stated that in just the first 15 days of this year, 807 people have gone missing in Delhi — an average of 54 persons every day. What is deeply disturbing is that out of these, 509 are women and 191 are children.
He further cited NCRB data to highlight that this is not an isolated or recent trend. “In 2025 alone, over 23,000 missing persons cases were reported in Delhi, with more than 60% involving women and girls. In 2024, nearly 25,000 cases were recorded, again with women forming the majority.
Dr. Sahney demanded for formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT), strict action against traffickers, and a comprehensive women safety strategy as the existing surveillance and policing mechanisms are not delivering effectively, “Despite Delhi having nearly 2.8 lakh government-installed CCTV cameras — more than cities like New York or London — the failure to trace thousands of missing persons points to serious systemic gaps.
Dr. Sahney also said that the pattern of disappearances, especially involving women and children, raises strong concerns of organised human trafficking.
