Dera Baba Nanak, January 28, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
In a shocking incident, a medical store owner was shot dead on Wednesday morning in Dera Baba Nanak town of Punjab while he was on his way to open his shop, triggering fresh concerns over law and order in the region.
The deceased has been identified as Ranbir Singh Bedi, who was engaged in the pharmaceutical retail business in the area. According to initial reports, unknown assailants opened fire on him near his shop premises, leaving him critically injured. He was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Notably, Bedi had earlier survived a similar attack on October 23, 2024, when a lone gunman had fired at him inside his medical store. Although he sustained injuries in that incident, he had recovered after treatment.
Sources said that Ranbir Singh Bedi was considered a close associate of Congress Member of Parliament Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa. Reacting to the incident, Randhawa expressed grief over Bedi’s killing and criticised the state government for its handling of the earlier case.
In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Randhawa said that timely and strict action after the 2024 attack could have prevented the latest tragedy. He held the authorities responsible for failing to ensure adequate security.
Police officials said that a case has been registered and an investigation is underway. Teams have been formed to identify and apprehend the attackers, and CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined. Further details are awaited as the probe progresses.
