It is noteworthy that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was recently signed between IKG PTU and UBS Sydney, Australia. This MoU is one of the many beneficial initiatives undertaken by the Punjab government in the field of education.
S. Harjot Singh Bains, Cabinet Minister of the Department of Technical Education and Industrial Training, Government of Punjab, also attended the MoU signing ceremony as the chief guest on Jan.23, 2026.
The program commenced with the recitation of hymns and the lighting of the lamp of knowledge. The University Registrar, Dr. Navdeepak Sandhu, welcomed all the attendees. Dr. Garry Malhotra, President of Universal Business School, shared information related to the exchange of students and faculty for academic purposes and the rules governing this exchange under the agreement.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, the Speaker of the Punjab Legislative Assembly, S. Kultar Singh Sandhwan, spoke about the glorious history of IKG PTU, stating that if we go to any developed country in the world, we will surely find students who have graduated from this university.
He encouraged the students to take full advantage of this MoU. Regarding the MoU, S. Sandhwan said that it is the need of the hour that talented students from needy families, who are unable to go abroad due to financial constraints, will benefit from such efforts by the Punjab government, which will help provide these talented students with great opportunities at the global level.
S. Sandhwan said that today, millions of students from this university are holding high positions in countries like Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, and the USA.
He said that until 1995, students from Punjab had to depend on other states for subjects like engineering, but this university, established in 1997, has now reached a point where thousands of students from other states like Bihar, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Kashmir come to study at this university and its 200+ affiliated colleges every year.
S. Sandhwan apprised the university that this academic cooperation agreement will create a framework for the transfer of academic credits (achievement numbers), which will be acceptable to both governments and other eligible institutions.
These joint academic programs will be helpful in starting a career in any related field of work. Furthermore, it will facilitate studies for both bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Through this joint education program, students will have the freedom to travel and work at each other’s institutions for research work, academic programs, etc. There will also be cooperation in conducting specialized research. S. Sandhwan congratulated both educational institutions.
MP Rajya Sabha Sant Baba Balbir Singh Ji Seechewal said that this is an emotional commitment for the youth of Punjab. Every student in Punjab has a dream in their eyes. But many also harbor fears—the fear of the dream being too expensive, the fear of not getting an opportunity, the fear of being left behind or straying from the path.
Such initiatives by the government will prove very effective in alleviating these fears! This agreement also sends a strong message to our students that “You are at the forefront on the global stage, the governments are with you, your university is with you.” The guest of honor, Chairman Bal Mukund Sharma, spoke about the needs and opportunities in the food processing sector of Punjab.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Susheel Mittal said that this agreement will also benefit meritorious students, that is, those who are pursuing their studies and wish to obtain scholarships for foreign education based on their merit. This agreement will provide them with immediate educational scholarships based on merit.
