Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda, celebrated the 77th Republic Day with great patriotic fervour and enthusiasm at the University Athletic Ground on Monday.
The occasion commemorated India’s historic transformation into a sovereign democratic republic on January 26, 1950, and reaffirmed the nation’s pride as the world’s largest democracy.
The celebrations began on a solemn and inspiring note as the Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Sanjeev Kumar Sharma, the Chief Guest on the occasion, unfurled the National Flag and took the salute of the parade. The university community paid heartfelt tributes to the valiant freedom fighters and martyrs whose supreme sacrifices laid the foundation of independent and republican India.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Sharma paid rich homage to the freedom fighters and martyrs of the nation. Highlighting Punjab’s historic role as the first line of defence of the country and its rich legacy, he remarked that this sacred land has produced countless martyrs and freedom fighters who willingly laid down their lives for the nation.
He also acknowledged the invaluable contribution of scientists, researchers, educators, and students in strengthening the country and accelerating national progress.
Emphasizing the values of humanity, unity, brotherhood, and national integrity, the Vice Chancellor urged the youth to actively participate in nation-building.
“Republic Day is an occasion to reflect upon our glorious past and to renew our collective commitment to the constitutional values that will guide us towards a stronger and brighter future,” he said.
Highlighting the rapid growth and development of MRSPTU, Prof. Sharma expressed confidence that the coming decade would be transformative for the university.
He noted that the institution is progressing at a remarkable pace and proudly mentioned that six of its scientists have figured among the top two percent scientists of the world. He further added that the university is receiving strong support for expansion and infrastructure development. Reaffirming MRSPTU’s commitment to academic excellence, research, innovation, and holistic development, he remarked, “When education flourishes, society prospers.”
The Vice Chancellor expressed his sincere gratitude to the Chancellor-cum-Governor of Punjab, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria; Punjab Chief Minister Shri Bhagwant Singh Mann; Technical Education and Industrial Training Minister Shri Harjot Singh Bains; Chairman, Board of Governors, Shri Tejveer Singh; and the local administration for their continued guidance and wholehearted support to the university.
A major highlight of the celebrations was an impressive and disciplined parade by NCC cadets of the 20 Punjab Battalion NCC, led by Dr. Vivek Kaundal. The parade beautifully reflected the ideals of unity, diversity, equality, discipline, and national service nurtured at MRSPTU.
Prof. Sharma appreciated the NCC cadets for their commendable performance and also lauded the students for their vibrant cultural presentations, which added colour and spirit to the programme.
Registrar Dr. Gurinder Pal Singh Brar also paid homage to the freedom fighters and extended warm Republic Day greetings to all. The ceremony was attended by senior deans including Dr. Ashish Baldi, Dr. Anupam Kumar, Dr. Amit Bhatia, Dr. Pritpal Singh Bhullar, and Dr. Dinesh Kumar, along with directors, faculty members, officers, staff, and students, who participated enthusiastically in the celebrations.
The event concluded with a collective pledge to work towards a prosperous, inclusive, and harmonious India, resonating with the spirited chant of “Bharat Mata ki Jai!”
