In a powerful display of sporting excellence and organisational leadership, Lovely Professional University (LPU) emerged as the overall champion at the Association of Indian University’s (AIU) North East Zone Inter-University Judo Championships for both men and women, reaffirming its strong presence in national and international level sports.
The dominant performance was reflected in an impressive medal tally of 13 medals, including six gold, five silver and two bronze, as LPU judokas outclassed competitors across multiple weight categories to secure the top honours in both male and female category.
The prestigious championship, hosted at the LPU campus, brought together some of the finest young judo athletes from Delhi, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Manipur, Chandigarh and across the northern and north eastern states. Nearly 60 universities participated in the tournament, with 280 men and 252 women competing across multiple weight categories, reflecting the expanding depth and competitiveness of university level judo in the country.
Demonstrating remarkable consistency, technical skill and discipline throughout the tournament, LPU judokas dominated the bouts and clinched the championship titles in both the men’s and women’s categories. With this outstanding performance, all LPU men’s and women’s players have now successfully qualified for the All India Inter University (AIU) Judo Championships, marking a significant milestone for the university’s sports programme.
The chief guest of the championship, Col. Dr. Rashmi Mittal, Pro Chancellor of LPU, congratulated the athletes for their exemplary sportsmanship and competitive spirit, and commended their performances across both categories.
Emphasising the transformative role of sports in shaping character, resilience and leadership, Dr. Mittal encouraged the young judokas to continue striving for excellence as they prepare for higher levels of national competition.
