BJP leader from the North Assembly constituency Akshay Sharma on Sunday visited the bereaved family of senior Amritsar-based journalist Harjit Grewal to offer condolences and participate in the Antim Ardas (final prayer).
During the visit, Akshay Sharma announced a financial assistance of ₹1 lakh for the family and made a heartfelt commitment to take complete responsibility for the marriage of Harjit Grewal’s daughter. He assured the family that the wedding would be solemnised exactly in the manner her late father had envisioned, and at a time and place chosen by the family.
Paying tribute to the veteran journalist, Sharma said that Harjit Grewal had always raised important public issues through his journalism and consistently stood by people in need. “Now that he is no longer with us, it is my moral responsibility to support his family in every possible way,” Sharma said.
The BJP leader also appreciated the role played by the office bearers of the Press Club Amritsar, acknowledging their solidarity and support to the Grewal family during the period of mourning.
Reassuring the family of continued support, Akshay Sharma said they could approach him at any time for assistance, adding that the doors of his home and office would always remain open for them.
