Preparations are in full swing at Guru Nanak Dev University here for its 50th Golden Jubilee annual convocation, scheduled to be held on January 15 at the Golden Jubilee Convention Centre.
President Droupadi Murmu will grace the occasion as the chief guest, university authorities said on Monday.
Punjab Governor and university Chancellor Sh. Gulab Chand Kataria, along with Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann will be the special guest on this occasion.
Registrar Prof. K.S. Chahal presided over a meeting of various committees formed by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Karamjeet Singh to ensure smooth conduct of the convocation. The meeting reviewed the preparations in detail and constituted sub-committees for different aspects of the programme.
Prof. Chahal informed that special programmes have been planned for the Golden Jubilee convocation, during which honorary degrees will be conferred on two prominent personalities for their outstanding contributions to social welfare and other areas.
A rehearsal is scheduled for January 14. Keeping in view the President’s visit, stringent security and disciplinary arrangements will be put in place, with Dean Students’ Welfare Prof. Harinder Singh Saini appointed as convener of the related committee.
Expressing pride in organising the university’s 50th convocation, Prof. Chahal said the committees and their members have been directed to leave no stone unturned in the preparations.
Among those present at the meeting were Prof. H.S. Saini, OSD Parminder Singh, Director Events Dr. Ravinder Kumar, Professor In-charge Examinations Dr. Shalini Bahel, Security Officer Harvinder Singh, Deputy Registrar Dr. Rajesh Kalia, Director Public Relations Praveen Kumar and several other officers and staff members.
After the meeting, Prof. Chahal inspected the Golden Jubilee Convention Centre and reviewed the arrangements for security, seating, stage and other facilities, issuing necessary directions on the spot.
