Collective cooperation extremely essential to combat menace of drugs: Punjab Guv Gulab Chand Kataria

In an event organized by the Indian Red Cross Society and the Karan Gilhotra Foundation to eradicate drug abuse, the Governor of Punjab, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, participated online and delivered a message urging the children present to join the campaign against drugs.

On this occasion, S. Shivdular Singh Dhillon (Retd. IAS), Secretary, Red Cross Society; Deputy Commissioner Ms. Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu, SSP Gurmeet Singh and Shri Karan Gilhotra from the Karan Gilhotra Foundation expressed their gratitude to the Hon’ble Governor for addressing the people of Fazilka against drug abuse.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Shri Gulab Chand Kataria said that due to adverse weather conditions and certain technical reasons, the helicopter could not operate and therefore he was unable to attend the program in person and joined the event online. He expressed his desire to visit Fazilka again in the coming months.

He said that Punjab is the land of Gurus, saints, brave warriors, and heroes, which has always confronted anti-national forces and given them a befitting reply. He emphasized that it is our collective duty to protect the nation from the evil menace of drugs.

The Governor stated that to eradicate drugs from their roots, collective cooperation of the people is essential, and only through united efforts can this social evil be effectively tackled. He called upon everyone to fulfill the dreams envisioned by our great patriots and to make the country drug-free and vibrant.

On this occasion, students from various schools presented cultural programs and impressive performances highlighting the fight against drugs.

Thereafter, an anti-drug foot march was organized from Sanjeev Palace, Fazilka, to Ghanta Ghar Chowk, led by Deputy Commissioner Ms. Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu, SSP S. Gurmeet Singh and social worker Karan Gilhotra. During the march, they paid obeisance at religious places and also sought blessings from Gaumata at a gaushala (cow shelter).

During the march, social worker Karan Gilhotra and Deputy Commissioner Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu also sensitized the youth against drug abuse and motivated people from all sections of society to extend their support to the anti-drug campaign. Thereafter, tributes were paid to the great martyrs who laid down their lives for the nation at the Asafwala Martyrs’ Memorial.

On this occasion Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Dr. Mandeep Kaur, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Subhash Chander, SDM Fazilka S. Amandeep Singh Maavi, SDM Abohar Krishnapal Rajput and office bearers and members of the Karan Gilhotra Foundation were also present.
