MP Aujla Pleads To Prioritize Amritsar’s Demand For a New Railway Station and New Rail Line

New Delhi/Amritsar, Dec 12, 2025 (Yes Punjab News)

During the Lok Sabha’s Zero Hour, MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla demanded immediate priority for major railway development projects related to Amritsar. Aujla said that Amritsar is an international religious and tourist hub, but railway facilities have not kept pace with the city’s growing needs.

He thanked Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav and Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu and said that his eight-year-old demand—that the central government acquire land for the Patti-Makhu rail link—has been accepted. He said that the state government lacked resources, so he had appealed to the central government for intervention, and the acceptance of which is now a welcome news.

Raising the most important issue, Aujla said that Amritsar urgently needs a new, modern railway station. He recalled that former Railway Minister Piyush Goyal himself stated in Parliament that “the Amritsar railway station has been approved,” but the project was stalled due to design issues. He urged the current Railway Minister to expedite the project to meet Amritsar’s tourism and business needs.

The MP also demanded the creation of a new tourist rail line and circuit for Amritsar. He proposed:

A new rail line should be laid from Sultanpur Lodhi to Goindwal.

A DMU train should be run on this route, connecting Sultanpur Sahib, Goindwal, Khadoor Sahib, Tarn Taran, Ramdas, Amritsar, and Dera Baba Nanak.

A separate circuit should be created by connecting Beas-Kadia-Amritsar.

He said that this network will increase religious pilgrimage and greatly benefit students, farmers, laborers, and local travelers.

MP Aujla stated during Zero Hour that Amritsar has suffered a significant decline in tourism in recent years due to the pandemic and other circumstances. Therefore, developing the city as a medical city and strengthening railway-based travel is crucial to ensure Amritsar’s continued growth.

Finally, he clearly urged the Center to prioritize Amritsar’s railway development and to expedite all pending projects.
