A man was shot dead in broad daylight outside the Abohar Court Complex on Thursday in what police suspect to be a case of gang rivalry. The victim, identified as Akash alias Golu Pandit, was reportedly targeted while he had arrived to attend a hearing in an Arms Act case.
According to initial police reports, six shots were fired in the parking area of the court complex. SSP Fazilka Gurmeet Singh said that three attackers arrived in a vehicle, and one of them opened fire at close range, leaving Golu critically injured. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. His body has been shifted to the mortuary, and a post-mortem examination will be conducted.
The SSP confirmed that the assailants have been identified, and a manhunt is underway. He assured that arrests will be made soon and the case will be resolved at the earliest.
While the exact motive behind the rivalry or enmity between the groups remains unclear, police suspect the killing is linked to ongoing gang disputes in the region. A case of murder has been registered, and further investigation is in progress.
The incident has raised serious concerns about security around court premises, especially with rising incidents of gang-related violence in the state.
