Organized by Chandigarh University in collaboration with the Union government’s Department of Science and Technology (DST), the dignitaries who graced this Conclave, attended by over 700 students from various schools in Jalandhar, included Prof (Dr) RS Bawa, Advisor to Chancellor Chandigarh University and Prem Singh, winner of DST’s National Award for Outstanding Efforts in Science & Technology Popularization among Children and State Awardee.

Students also displayed their innovative projects at the Science Exhibition during the Conclave. Top three projects were given cash prizes of Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 each. In a Practical Session, Prem Singh demonstrated the science experiments in an easy way to make students understand the basic principles.

In his address, the Chief Guest Prof (Dr) RS Bawa said, “Learning science helps young learners develop a scientific temperament for innovation which is the key to realizing the dream of Viksit Bharat.

In line with this vision, Chandigarh University is providing world class education in India. Chandigarh University’s global rankings are testament of the quality of our education across streams. Chandigarh University ranked as India’s number 1 private university for the third consecutive year in the QS Asia University Rankings 2026,”.

Prof Bawa said “As Chandigarh University offers range of industry-collaborative programs in line with requirements of the modern day world, this is the reason Chandigarh University, India’s leading private university, continues to be a top choice for leading national and international recruiters with a total of over 1100 recruiters including Microsoft, Amazon, Walt Disney IBM, Flipkart and SAP Labs offering impressive 9,500 job opportunities to students across various disciplines in 2024-25 academic session,”.

Prof Bawa said CU is also providing up to 100 % scholarships worth Rs 210 Crore through Chandigarh University Common Entrance Test (CUCET) to support meritorious and financially disadvantaged students.

He said trough CUCET portal (https://www.cuchd.in/scholarship/) meritorious students can earn up to 100% scholarships to pursue quality higher education at Chandigarh University’s Mohali and Lucknow campuses.

“As a research-intensive university, Chandigarh University fosters innovation and allotted a budget of Rs 15 crore this year for research-intensive education of its students. As a result, CU students and faculty have filed over 17000 research publications and over 5000 patents which is the second highest number of patents filed by any institution in India.

The university supports innovation through 50 research groups, 30 industry-sponsored Advanced Research Labs and 15 Centers of Excellence (COEs) partnered with companies like Microsoft, Cisco, Hyundai, Tech Mahindra, Capgemini, and IBM for providing hands-on training to our students which make them future ready. More than 150 successful start-ups have been launched under Chandigarh University-Technology Business Incubator (CU-TBI),” Prof Bawa added.

Addressing students, National science award winner Prem Singh said, “Science experiments turn ordinary ideas into memorable experiences and develop a scientific temper through inquiry rather than imparting mere scientific knowledge.

With hands-on experience, the concepts dwell in each student’s memory for a long time and make the learning process much more enjoyable. Students who are interested in science and want to build their future should first experiment, then research and see what science is hidden behind it.

This approach holds the key to innovations. India needs good doctors, engineers, and scientists for realizing the vision of a developed India by 2047, so our youth should connect with science and technology,”.
