Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab State General Secretary and Punjab Mandi Board Chairman S. Harchand Singh Barsat launched a sharp attack on the BJP over the issue of farmers during the election campaign for the Tarn Taran Assembly by-election. He said that the BJP is an anti-farmer party that has always ignored the farmers of Punjab. The BJP-led central government has always discriminated against Punjab. Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab has continuously taken major decisions in the interest of farmers, due to which the agriculture sector in the state is flourishing rapidly today.
S. Barsat said that the BJP-led central government first tried to destroy the agriculture sector by introducing three farm laws, but due to the farmer’s movement, the central government was forced to withdraw its decision. Hundreds of farmers were martyred during this movement. He said that the farmers of the country will never forget such acts of the central government and will give a befitting reply to the BJP when the time comes.
He said that the Aam Aadmi Party government is a government that protects the interests of farmers and takes all agriculture-related decisions only after consulting with farmers. He said that due to floods, there has been large-scale crop loss in Punjab, yet the central government has not provided any assistance. On the other hand, under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab government is providing compensation of ₹20,000 per acre to the affected farmers, which is the highest in the country.
The State General Secretary said that the procurement operations of paddy are running smoothly in all mandis of Punjab. The purchase of crops from farmers is being done on time, and payments are being directly transferred to their bank accounts. Adequate arrangements have been made in the mandis keeping in mind the convenience of farmers, commission agents, and labourers. The lifting of purchased crops from mandis is also being carried out efficiently. He said that the people of Tarn Taran will give a strong reply to the BJP for its anti-people actions and will ensure a massive victory for AAP candidate S. Harmeet Singh Sandhu.
