The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) Ludhiana has appointed Dr Harpal Singh Randhawa as the new Director of the PAU Regional Research Station in Gurdaspur.
PAU authorities informed that the decision follows an extensive selection process aimed at finding a candidate with a distinguished track record in agriculture and a clear vision for advancing the university goals.
Dr. Harpal Singh Randhawa is renowned for his contributions to research, extension, and teaching activities.
He has developed 50 recommendations covering plant protection, crop production, and varietal development for the Package of Practices for field, fruit, and vegetable crops. He has also published 94 research papers in NAAS-rated refereed journals and proceedings of national and international symposia and conferences.
Additionally, Dr. Randhawa has taught 80 courses in Entomology, Pathology, and Zoology to undergraduate classes and authored 303 extension articles in agricultural magazines such as Progressive Farming, Changi Kheti, Indian Farming, and Indian Farmers Digest, as well as newspapers.
He has delivered 300 lectures in agricultural training programmes to popularize new technologies developed by PAU Ludhiana.
Moreover, he has generated Rs 4.65 crore through research project submissions, sales of quality seeds, bioagents, and fruit fly traps, bringing a wealth of experience to his new role.
Upon his appointment, Dr. Harpal Singh Randhawa expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve and reiterated his commitment to the Regional Research Station’s mission of advancing research, extension, and teaching.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration and innovation in tackling current challenges and fostering future growth.
PAU Vice Chancellor, Dr SS Gosal congratulated the scientist and wished him a successful tenure.
