Governor of Punjab, Mr. Banwari Lal Purohit, while addressing the members of the Village Level Defense Committees of the border area, announced that within one year, anti-drone technology will be installed on the entire Indo-Pak border, which will prevent drugs and weapons from Pakistan through drones.
Mr. Prohit, while meeting the VLDC members of Amritsar and Tarn Taran in village Dhanoy and later in the hall of Guru Nanak Dev University, praised the aggressive policy adopted by the Central and Punjab Security Agencies against drugs and said that as civil, police and central Agencies are working together so good results are beginning to emerge.
He also announced that cash prizes will be given to the committees doing good work in six districts along the Indo-Pak border, in which the first prize will be Rs.3 lakh, the second prize will be Rs.2 lakh and the third prize will be Rs.1 lakh.
He said that defense committees should be formed in every district at the village level for the eradication of drugs across the state and calling a district level meeting every year.
He also directed to constitute a special panel of lawyers to deal with drug court cases and to immediately confiscate the property of the accused person after being sentenced. He said that drug smugglers not like mercy they will crushed.
He also directed that arms licenses should be issued to the VLDC members as required and in addition they should be accorded respect in the police and civil administration so that people come forward and work against these traffickers. He also assured that the border area police station will be strengthened.
He said that since Pakistan does not have the capacity to fight India directly, this drug trafficking is a war being waged by it. He praised the bravery of the people of the villages sitting on the border and said that your support has always proved effective in defeating the enemy and even today the police need your help to stop drug addiction.
He assured the people of the border area that they will continue to come to support you in this campaign launched against drugs provided you remain firm against this smuggling.
On this occasion, DGP Mr. Gaurav Yadav announced that anyone who helps the police in capturing the drone coming from across the border will be given a reward of one lakh rupees.
He said that whatever drones people have sold in the past will also be rewarded and this reward will be given in the future as well. He also gave a grant of 3.5 lakh rupees to the youth clubs of three villages of Dhanoy, Modo K and Atalgarh in the border area.
On this occasion, Principal Secretary Mr. Anurag Verma, DGP. Shri Gaurav Yadav, Additional Principal Secretary Shri K Shiva Prashad, Vice Chancellor Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Administrative Secretary Mr. Kamal Kishore Yadav, Commissioner of Police Mr. Ranjit Singh, DIG Mr. Rakesh Kaushal, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Ghansham Thori, District Police Chief Mr. Satinder Singh, Deputy Commissioner Taran Taran Mr. Sandeep Kumar and District Police Chief Mr. Ashwani Kapoor and Other officials were also present.
