Akali Dal 1920 President Ravinder Singh, former Speaker, issued a press statement and said that the ‘coronation’ of the Jathedar at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib was considered unethical and a betrayal of the Sikh Panth and said that the powerful have made a mockery of Sikh principles by insulting the dignity and traditions of the Takht Sahibans.
He said that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee is the apex body of the Sikh community. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee is the gift of the Gurdwara Reform Movement that spread in the Sikh community in the early decades of the twentieth century.
The Sikhs had to struggle for a long time for the establishment of this organization, but the community is also having to see such days. The Shiromani Committee is being limited to making decisions based on its own preferences.
The SGPC’s internal committee has suddenly removed Giani Harpreet Singh, Giani Raghbir Singh and Giani Sultan Singh, who are sitting in the honored positions of the Panth, from their services, thereby undermining the supremacy of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Ji, Sikh principles, traditions and morality, and now the Panth has been undermined by the premature coronation of Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj without Panthic approval.
He said that such anti-Panthic actions being taken against the norms have hurt the sentiments of Sikhs all over the world. According to him, the Badal family has grossly violated Sikh principles and norms.
The current situation has arisen due to the Sikh Sangat not having the management of Sri Akal Takht and the lack of any mechanism for the appointment, retirement, etc. of Jathedars. Due to this, there is huge resentment among the Sikh Sangat.
The former Speaker said that as long as the Badal Dal continues to interfere in the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, no administrative and religious reform can be expected here.
On this occasion, Mr. Ravinder Singh appealed that in the current situation of Panthic conflict and opposition, all groups, like-minded and Panthic parties should come together on one platform to emphasize the need to find a solution to this dilemma in a Panthic manner with the unity and consensus of the nation.
