The School of Agricultural Sciences and Engineering (SASE), in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS) Wing of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda, successfully organized a seven-day Special NSS Camp from February 17 to 23.
The camp was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Abhilasha, NSS Coordinator, and Dr. Wineet Chawla, Assistant Professor and Programme Officer, NSS, and witnessed the active participation of 50 student volunteers. The objective was to instil social responsibility, leadership, teamwork, and community engagement among students.
The camp was formally inaugurated by Dr. Gurinderpal Singh Brar, Hon’ble Registrar, MRSPTU, in the presence of Dr. Wineet Chawla. Throughout the week, volunteers engaged in academic, social, environmental, and health-oriented activities.
Key activities included a campus cleanliness drive, during which students cleaned academic blocks, gardens, and common areas, promoting discipline and civic responsibility. Plantation drives were also organized, with volunteers planting and nurturing saplings across the campus to encourage environmental sustainability, in line with the NSS motto “Not Me But You.”
A poster-making competition provided a platform for students to creatively express views on environmental protection, health awareness, and social issues. Sports activities, including badminton matches, promoted physical fitness and team spirit.
Students also attended an Anti-Drug Awareness Seminar at the Nandgarh Campus, highlighting the ill effects of substance abuse, and a LinkedIn Seminar focusing on professional networking and career development. Additionally, a free health check-up camp was organized to promote preventive healthcare and healthy living.
The valedictory ceremony, held on February 23, was presided over by Prof. (Dr.) Sanjeev Kumar Sharma, Vice Chancellor, MRSPTU, who distributed certificates and commended the volunteers for their dedication. Dr. Gurinderpal Singh Brar attended as Guest of Honour and appreciated the joint efforts of NSS and SASE.
The camp was organized under the guidance of Prof. Jasvir Singh Tiwana, Head, SASE, with support from Dr. Kanwaljit Singh, Assistant Professor, SASE, and Er. Rajinder Singh, Senior Technician. Coordination was efficiently handled by Ms. Simranpreet Kaur and Dr. Ruksana, Co-Advisors of the NSS Unit.
The NSS Special Camp 2026 proved to be a transformative experience, strengthening students’ social awareness, practical skills, and commitment to nation building.
