Mohali, March 13, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
March 13, 2026 President of Misal Satluj, Sardar Ajay Pal Singh Brar, in a statement, expressed deep concern over the rapidly rising number of cancer cases and the increasing mortality rate in Punjab, describing it as a highly alarming public health issue.
Citing the latest data released by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), he stated that during the year 2025, an average of 68 people lost their lives to cancer every day in Punjab.
According to official statistics, 43,196 new cancer cases were reported in Punjab in 2025, while approximately 24,886 people died due to the disease. Brar pointed out that the number of cases and fatalities has been steadily increasing over the past few years, indicating that the problem has assumed a serious and alarming dimension.
He further stated that a significant number of women are currently suffering from cancer, with breast cancer emerging as a “silent killer” among the female population.
Referring specifically to statistics related to women, Sardar Brar said that nearly 56% of the total cancer-related deaths in Punjab are attributed to breast cancer. He emphasized that the growing prevalence of this disease among women of all age groups demands urgent attention and collective action.
Criticizing the recent political discourse surrounding women, Ajay p6al Singh Brar termed it unfortunate that while women across Punjab are battling a life-threatening disease like breast cancer, the issue has not received the seriousness it deserves in the Assembly session.
He alleged that instead of expressing concern over this grave health crisis, elected representatives, including the Chief Minister, have reduced the women’s issue to a political tool.
Brar urged the Punjab Government to take concrete and serious steps to combat the growing menace of cancer. At the same time, he appealed to every responsible citizen of Punjab to contribute towards making the state healthier and free from the burden of such devastating diseases.
