A meeting of the committee of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab, specially constituted in connection with the 550th Parkash Purb celebrations of Sri Guru Nanak Dev, the first Sikh master, was held in Chandigarh on Friday under the chairmanship of party legislator Kulwant Singh Pandori.
The others who were present on the occasion included state core committee chairman, principal Budh Ram, Kultar Singh Sandhwan, Jai Kishan Singh Rori, Manjit Singh Bilaspur (All MLAs), committee members Bibi Bhupinder Kaur, Bibi Jasvir Kaur Shergill, Jameel-U-Rehman, Satwinder Singh Johal and Hardip Singh Patiala (Advocate).
In a statement issued from party headquarters on Saturday, party spokesman and MLA Kultar Singh Sandhwan said that the sole aim and objective of the committee constituted by the party was only to ensure its optimum participation and that of others on the historic occasion, adding that the entire AAP leadership, cadres and volunteers would go around the people spreading the Guru’s eternal teachings of ‘nam japo, kirat karo, wand chhako’ across the world and try to emulate themselves.
Sandhwan said that even as the Delhi government was going the whole hog taking all necessary steps to make the mission a success, Delhi CM and party’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal had asked the committee to give more suggestions to this effect, making it an unforgettable event, he said adding that the committee would meet Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and deputy CM, Munish Sisodia in Delhi, any time soon, to discuss ways and means to be put in place ahead of the celebrations.
Sandhwan informed that AAP would not set up a separate stage on the occasion and would urge the Punjab government and Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC), besides other religious leaders and organizations, to celebrate the big day under one roof, by shunning their frayed tempers and false egos, saying the people worldwide coming from diverse religions and races were watching the entire Sikh community bracing for the day.
He stated that it wouldn’t go well with the grandiose if they set up separate stages of their own and indulged themselves in trading barbs at each other over the pious occasion, thus stealing the religious fervor of the festive occasion.
