400th Parkash Purb: Nagar Kirtan organized from Akal Takht Sahib

The Gurmat Samagam (religious events) being organised by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to mark the 400th Parkash Purab of Guru Tegh Bahadur continued for the second day and different groups of raagis, dhaddis (ballad singers) and kavishars (poets) connected the sangat with Gurbani Kirtan and the history of the ninth Guru at Gurdwara Manji Sahib Diwan Hall on Friday.

A Nagar Kirtan (religious procession) was also decorated and carried out from Akal Takht Sahib to the birthplace of ninth Guru, Gurdwara Guru Ke Mahal, in which, homage and devotion were offered to the Guru by the attendees including head granthi of Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib Giani Jagtar Singh, Jathedar Akal Takht Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh, Jathedar Takht Kesgarh Sahib Giani Raghbir Singh, SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur, SGPC general secretary Adv Bhagwant Singh Sialka, several Panthic personalities, SGPC members, officials and representatives of sabha-societies.

Following prayers, head granthi Giani Jagtar Singh performed the service of Chaur Sahib of Guru Granth Sahib as he was sitting on the decorated palanquin, and the sangat sang Gurbani hymns and recited Waheguru while walking along with the Nagar Kirtan.

The gatka (Sikh martial art) and band parties also participated in the Nagar Kirtan.

Although, the participation of the sangat was low due to Covid-19 restrictions but the present sangat had enthusiasm towards the celebration of the historic day.

Others who attended the Nagar Kirtan included head of Dal Baba Bidhi Chand Baba Avtar Singh Sursingh, head of Tarna Dal Baba Gajjan Singh, SGPC executive committee member S. Bhupinder Singh Bhalwan, SGPC member S. Rajinder Singh Mehta, Bhai Manjit Singh Bhurakohna, S. Amarjit Singh Bandala and others.

Among the SGPC officials who attended the Nagar Kirtan were secretary S. Mahinder Singh Ahli, S. Sukhdev Singh Bhurakohna, S. Pratap Singh, assistant secretary S. Kulwinder Singh Ramdas, S. Sakatar Singh. S. Simarjeet Singh, S. Balwinder Singh Kahlwan, Sri Darbar Sahib manager S. Gurinder Singh Mathrewal, OSD to SGPC president Dr Amrik Singh Latifpur, Dr Sukhbir Singh, superintendent Malkit Singh Beharwal and others.

SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur does Gurbani Kirtan

Amid the ongoing Gurmat Samagam to mark the 400th Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur at Gurdwara Manji Sahib Diwan Hall attached to Sri Darbar Sahib, the SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur did the service of singing Gurbani Kirtan. She paid homage and respect to the ninth Guru by singing Gurbani Kirtan for the sangat.

During today’s event various kirtan groups including Bibi Baljit Kaur Khalsa Talwarawale, Bibi Amarjit Kaur Sri Amritsarwale, hazuri ragi Bhai Gurkirat Singh, Bhai Maninder Singh connected the sangat with Gurbani Kirtan.

Apart from this, Bibi Rajwant Kaur’s ballad singing group and preachers shared the history of the ninth Guru and poet groups praised the Guru Sahib. Bhai Jaswinder Singh Shahur, head preacher, Bhai Jagdev Singh and Bibi Harpreet Kaur managed the stage.

Meanwhile, in the afternoon, Kavi Darbar (poetic court) was held in which Dr Sarabjit Kaur Sandhanwalia, Bibi Jatinder Kaur Anandpuri, Bibi Manjit Kaur Pahuwind, Bibi Navroop Kaur Tarn Taran, Bibi Harmeet Kaur Khalsa, Dr Gurcharan Kaur, Bibi Beant Kaur, Bibi Sarabjit Kaur, Bibi Kawaljit Kaur and Bibi Rajwinder Kaur introduced the life history of Guru Tegh Bahadur to the sangat through poems.

Ragi groups continue Gurbani Kirtan Gurdwara Guru Ke Mahal

Under the Gurmat Samagam, the Gurbani Kirtan continued at Gurdwara Guru Ke Mahal to mark the 400th Parkash Purab. The hazuri ragi groups of Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib performed Gurbani Kirtan at Gurdwara Sahib. Meanwhile, the sangat continued to arrive at Gurdwara Guru Ke Mahal, the birthplace of the ninth Guru.

The ongoing events of the SGPC were telecast live through various channels and sangat from all over the country and abroad are joining the celebrations of the 400th Parkash Purab.
