3-Day “World Punjabi Conference” to Begin Feb 20 at Guru Nanak Dev University

A three-day “World Punjabi Conference” will commence on February 20 at Amritsar, where eight eminent personalities who have made significant contributions to Punjab, Punjabi language and culture will be honoured.

Reviewing the arrangements, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Karamjeet Singh, expressed satisfaction over the preparations.

He said Punjab and the Punjabi language & culture remain his foremost priority, adding that the systematic development, promotion and dissemination of Punjabi language, literature and culture are among the university’s core objectives. He further noted that the conference would explore future possibilities for Punjab and Punjabi in the context of Artificial Intelligence.

Conference Coordinator Dr. Manjinder Singh informed that the central theme of the conference is “The Role of Artificial Intelligence in the Domains of Punjab, Punjabi and Punjabiat.”

The inaugural session will be held on February 20 at 2:30 pm at the Golden Jubilee Convention Centre, Guru Nanak Bhawan of the University. It will be presided over by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Karamjeet Singh while the keynote address will be delivered by K.B.S. Sidhu.

The chief guest on the occasion will be S. Tarlochan Singh, with S. Vikramjit Singh Sahney and Dr. Deepak Manmohan Singh attending as guests of honour. The vote of thanks will be proposed by Dr. Harvinder Singh Saini, Dean Academic Affairs.

On the evening of the inaugural day, a theatrical performance titled “1675”, dedicated to the martyrdom of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur ji, will be staged. An International Kavi Darbar will be organised on February 21 alongwith other functions.

During the conference, eight distinguished personalities who have brought global recognition to Punjab, Punjabi and Punjabiat will be honoured. These include Sant Baba Mahinder Singh, Sardara Singh Johal, Surinderpal Singh Oberoi, Charanjit Singh Bath, Ranjit Singh, Swinderpal Singh, Kanwarpal Singh Suri and Baldev Kang.

Dr. Manjinder Singh added that the valedictory session will be held on February 22 in the Conference Hall under the chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Karamjeet Singh.

The chief guest will be Colonel Jasmer Singh Bala. Prof. Jagdeep Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Punjabi University Patiala, and Prof. Balkar Singh will participate as special guests, while the valedictory address will be delivered by Amarjit Singh Grewal.
