A young farmer allegedly died of gunshots at Khanauri border on Wednesday.
The deceased was part of protesting farmers’ group who had gathered at the border to cross over and reach Delhi to press upon pending farmer demands.
The farmers who have been stopped at Haryana borders and not allowed to move further had been facing tear gas and plastic bullets being fired at them by Haryana Police and para-military forces.
The 21-year-old youth reportedly died due to bullet injury while many others are reported to be injured.
According to farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, Shubhakaran Singh Gaggu, resident of village Ballo, district Bathinda, died due to a bullet wound in his neck. It is learned that Shubhakaran Singh was the only brother of his three sisters.
Confirming the death and the ‘possible’ reson, Civil Surgeon of Patiala Mr. Harman Singh Rekhi said that 3 farmers were brought to Rajindra Hospital.
However, one out of the three i.e. Shubhakaran Singh was brought dead. He said, it seems that he died of a bullet injury in the head. He said that the cause of death would be confirmed only after the post-mortem of the deceased.
He informed that the condition of 2 more injured is stable and the hospital is fully prepared to deal with any kind of emergency.
