YAD questions Capt Amarinder on unfulfilled poll promises concerning youth of Punjab

Chandigarh, July 24, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

The Youth Akali Dal (YAD) today asked chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh to tell Punjabi youth how many jobs he had given to them in the last three and a half years even as he asked him to tell which of the six major promises made to the youth in the Congress election manifesto had been fulfilled till now.

Addressing a virtual conference, YAD President Parambans Singh Romana said the chief minister and the Congress party should not try to mislead youth any longer. “It is high time the chief minister tells how many jobs he has given to the youths.

Jobs created by his government and not placement agencies of private colleges or self employed jobs created in the market. Once the chief minister comes out with this figure it will be clear whether the Congress has come even remotely close to creating 52 lakh jobs under its ghar ghar naukari yojna as promised in the party’s election manifesto”.

Mr Parambans Romana also asked the chief minister and finance minister Manpreet Singh Badal, who headed the party’s election manifesto committee, to tell the status of the promises made to the youth.

He said both the CM and FM should tell if the unemployed youth were ever given Rs 2,500 per month unemployment allowance as promised. “The government should specify how many youth were given unemployment allowance in the last three and a half years”.

The YAD President said the Congress government had also announced a number of schemes to create self employment opportunities for youth including the Apni Gaddi Apna Rozgar, Hara Tractor and Yaari Enterprises.

He said in the Apni Gaddi Apna Rozgar the government had promised to facilitate provision of one lakh taxis/ commercial vehicles to youth every year. He said under the Hara Tractor scheme youth were to be similarly provided 25,000 tractors every year. “Under Yaari Enterprises the government had promised to provide 30 per cent subsidy to groups of youth for opening their own enterprises”.

He said the CM and FM should tell exactly how many taxis, commercial vehicles and tractors had been given to the youth if any during the last three and a half years. Also how many youth enterprises have been set up should also be disclosed”, the YAD President said.

Speaking about the smart phone promise made to the youth, Mr Romana said the Congress had been making excuses of providing mobiles to the youth every year. “Now the situation is such that it seems the smart phones have also been afflicted by COVID-19”.

Mr Romana also disclosed that post metric scholarship worth hundreds of crores of SC students was pending since long and that there was a reduction in admission of one lakh students in government colleges due to this. “The CM and the FM must explain why funds meant for SC students had been diverted and why they had not received their scholarships”, the YAD President added.
