Will take fight against Center’s anti-farmer laws to villages: Sunil Jakhar

Fatehgarh Sahib, Chandigarh June 19, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)
Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Mr. Sunil Jakhar said that Congress party would take its fight against the black laws enacted by the central government against the farmers to each village so that farmers could know the anti-agriculture intent and policy of Modi government.

While launching PPCC’s mass movement here today, he said that the party would conduct such programs at all the district headquarters.

Paying homage to Indian armymen who lost their lives for the country in the violent clash with China in Galwan valley, PPCC president said that the Congress stands united with the army and the government on this issue to ensure that a decisive response could be given to the enemy.

The gathering paid homage to the martyrs on the occasion. Taking the central govt to task on amendments in the marketing of agricultural produce laws, Mr. Jakhar said that it was the Union government’s game plan to dump the minimum support price system for crops.

“Union Minister and BJP ex-national president Nitin Gadkari had made it clear that Modi government would not allow MSP as it’s a burden for the country’s economy, he said.

Mr. Jakhar said that if MSP was abolished then it would completely destroy the agriculture of Punjab. “Millions of farmers who were ensuring food security of the country could not be left at the mercy of moneylenders.

Such a model had failed in states like Bihar. Only a few families would benefit from the new system. However, this would be a huge loss to the farmers as well as to the maids, transporters and laborers, he added.

The state Congress chief said that agriculture was the only sector in the world which was not affected by the recession in the wake of the Covid crisis but the Modi government was moving fast to close down this sector with new laws.

He said that in Punjab the Akali Dal President was acting as a corporate and supporting the anti-farmer decisions. People of Punjab were better understanding the meaning of a studded silence of Akali Dal, Mr. Jakhar added.

Mr. Jakhar said that the Modi government had deliberately chosen the time to enact such law when the farmers could not even protest due to pandemic related situation. He said that the party would make the people aware of the real facts in this regard.

The party leaders also planted saplings here on the occasion of Rahul Gandhi’s birthday.

Among others present were Civil Supplies Minister Mr. Bharat Bhushan Ashu, MP Mr. Amar Singh, MLA Mr. Kuljit Singh Nagra, Mr. Randeep Singh Nabha, Mr. Gurpreet Singh GP and Punjab Youth Congress president Mr. Barinder Singh Dhillon.
