On the current law and order situation in Punjab and increased sacrilege incidents Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Punjab Chief Ministerial candidate and Member of Parliament Bhagwant Mann said that today Punjab’s law and order situation is poor due to the weak Congress government and the tussle among Congress leaders for power has worsened the situation.
Addressing the media at the party headquarters on Wednesday, Mann said the Channi government was so weak and unstable that it changed DGPs four times and AGs twice in 111 days. Congress government carried forward the corruption of Akali-BJP government in the police administration. He said that the previous governments, of Congress, Captain, Akali and BJP, were extremely corrupt, unstable and weak. And the repercussions were so many sacrilege incidents, bomb blasts and an atmosphere of tension and fear among the people of Punjab.
Mann said that the Aam Aadmi Party would give Punjab a stable, honest and strong government. “Our first priority will be to reinstate peace and brotherhood of Punjab. The AAP government will give strict punishments to the culprits and masterminds of all sacrilege incidents and will also stop cross-border infiltration and drones. We will give freedom to the police to take actions and maintain law and order. By strengthening law and order, we will make Punjab the safest state in the country,” said Mann.
Mann said that the AAP government will constitute an independent drug task force to make Punjab drug-free. This force will be free from political pressure and interference. Giving the example of America, Mann said that in America, no minister, not even the President, can intervene in the functioning of Police administration. Similarly in Punjab, if any leader or minister tried to interrupt and manipulate drug task force, they will be made resign from their position.
Mann said that today, instead of protecting the public, the police personnel are engaged in the security of the leaders-ministers and their families. They are forced to perform duties that do not fall under the job description of a Police person. Due to this, there is a huge shortage of police personnel in the police station and at the checkpoints, but there is a heavy presence of police behind the leaders.
In AAP government, instead of protecting the leaders and ministers and doing their work, Punjab Police personnel will be deployed in the security of the public and doing their job.
Addressing the issue of unemployed youth and temporary workers, Mann said that after March 2022, youth and employees will get freedom from their troubles, protests and police lathis. He said that their government will provide adequate job opportunities and resources to the youth in Punjab itself and solve all the problems of temporary workers.
