Why Singh Sabha co-option in DSGMC in dispute? – Inder Mohan Singh

New Delhi, May 11, 2023 (Yes Punjab News)
Co-option of 2 members from registered Singh Sabhas of Delhi in Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) is in dispute. Citing reference to the Delhi Gurdwara Act, the President of Dashmesh Sewa Society (Regd), former member DSGMC and expert in Delhi Gurdwara affairs Mr Inder Mohan Singh said that under Section 4, apart from 46 elected members 9 members are also Co-opted in DSGMC which also include 2 members chosen by draw of lots out of President of registered Singh Sabha of Delhi as representative of these Singh Sabha Gurdwaras.

He said that it is very ridiculous that if such nominated members during 4 years term of DSGMC loses election and removed from the post of President in their respective Singh Sabha Gurdwaras, even then they continue to enjoy the status of DSGMC members and can use their voting right which is not justified because when they are no more President of that Singh Sabha then how they can represent that Singh Sabha in DSGMC ? In these circumstances Director Gurdwara Election should cancel the membership of that loser President and start afresh process to Co-opt the new incumbent President of that Singh Sabha Gurdwara.

Inder Mohan Singh asMr Inder Mohan Singh said that the members Co-opted through lottery system should not have any voting right because they are only representative of Singh Sabha but not members elected through majority votes, although in past one Singh Sabha Co-opted member even continue to enjoy the prestigious post of President of DSGMC for a long time.

Mr Inder Mohan Singh said that during Co-option process in the year 2021, the then Director Gurdwara Elections tried to start new practice for allowing 5 draw of lots instead of 2 lots, for which various Writ Petitions are pending adjudication in the Hon’ble Delhi High Court though their decision are not expected in the near future.

Till then the ineligible Co-opted members will continue to enjoy the status in DSGMC. Mr Inder Singh said that their Dashmesh Sewa Society has filed representations to the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Chief Minister and Director Gurdwara Election to make required amendments in the Delhi Sikh Gurdwaras Act 1971 to avoid any controversy and confusion in future.
