The act of Delhi Government to postpone the constitution of new Executive Board of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) has put the Sikh community in confusion.
While elaborating on this issue, Mr. Inder Mohan Singh Expert in Delhi Gurdwara Affairs said that recently the Delhi Government has given an undertaking in the Hon’ble Delhi High Court that the process for constitution of new Executive Body of DSGMC will not be completed till the matter regarding Co-option of Manjinder Singh Sirsa in DSGMC as nominee of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) is resolved.
Mr. Inder Mohan Singh said that the constitution of the new Committee cannot be delayed due to dispute in nomination of only one member because there are instances to constitute the Committee with even less number of members. While citing the Gurdwara Rules, Mr. Inder Mohan Singh said that whereas the new Executive Board ought to have be constituted within one month from the declaration of election results on August 25, 2021, but in the present scenario the new Committee is not expected to come in existence in the near future.
He said that it is a sheer violation of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwaras Act 1971 to postpone the election of Executive Board beyond its stipulated time because there is no provision to stop the election process once it is started. While expressing doubts, he said that the act of delaying elections can be an intention of the government to take over the management of Delhi Gurdwara Committee in its own hand ?
Mr Inder Mohan Singh asked the Delhi Government that under which rule of law the 5 Presidents of the Singh Sabha Gurdwaras were taken out in lotterey instead of only 2 required and why notification has not been issued for Co-option of these Presidents although 2 week time period has elapsed till now.
