Reacting to the approval given by the Government of India to the Sikh jatha going to Pakistan on the occasion of Khalsa Sajna Diwas, SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “Every year four jathas visit the holy shrines of Pakistan as per routine and in such case, permission given by the Government of India is no different.
The decision taken by the government now of giving permission to the jatha going for Khalsa Sajna Diwas (Baisakhi), raises question on the government’s earlier decision when a special jatha going to mark Saka Nankana Sahib centenary in the month of February was denied permission by giving the reason of corona and security”, said Bibi Jagir Kaur.
“It has made it clear that the Government of India had then deliberately banned the jatha. If there was no danger due to corona then why was the excuse of corona made at that time? The situation of corona at that time (in February) was less escalated as compared to the present”, questioned Bibi Jagir Kaur.
SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “The Sikh Jagat can never forget the jatha which was stopped by the Government of India on the occasion of 100th anniversary of Saka Nankana Sahib.”
At the same time Bibi Jagir Kaur termed the negative attitude of the Government of India towards the corridor of Sri Kartarpur Sahib as against the Sikh sentiments.
Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “Sri Kartarpur Sahib Corridor has also been closed in the name of corona. However, the sangat visiting this holy place will return in the evening. If there is no prohibition for corona elsewhere, then the corridor of Guru Ghar at Sri Kartarpur Sahib should also be opened. The Government of India should seriously consider this matter.”
