Expressing concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) stated that ‘mafia rule’ was prevailing in the state during the Congress government led by Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.
In a statement issued from the party headquarters, MLA and Youth Wing president Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer said that CM Captain Amarinder Singh who is also the Home Minister of the state, had failed to maintain law and order.
He said that the recent shootout that led to murder of Youth Congress leader Gurlal Singh Bhullar in broad daylight in Faridkot was a result of the failure of the Captain government. “If the leaders of the party which has its government in Punjab are not safe, then how can the general public be safe,” he added.
Hayer said this was not the first time that such an incident had taken place and many incidents had come to light in the recent past but the government had not taken any action. He said that it was unfortunate that the number of thefts, robberies, murders and drug smuggling cases in Punjab was increasing day by day but the Punjab Chief Minister was unaware of it.
“The Chief Minister is directly responsible for making ‘mafia’ rule in Punjab. In the recent past, drug smugglers have been caught in Punjab and their names have been directly linked with the Chief Minister’s Office,” he added.
Hayer said that recently the Congress in bid to loot the municipal bodies’ elections in Punjab, had given free hand to its goons, thus getting the leaders and workers of other opposition parties attacked and due to such vile politics, the number of criminals in Punjab was on the rise.
The AAP leader further said that it was surprising that the police which was supposed to maintain the law and order was seen coming out in support of the goons recently. “People who were protesting against the goons were beaten by the police and locked up in police stations.
The Congress party is pushing Punjab towards darkness to enjoy power,” said Hayer. He said that Captain Amarinder Singh had promised to make Punjab, a number one state in all respects during the assembly elections and said that he would make improvements in every field; but today Captain Amarinder Singh was sitting in his royal farmhouse and the situation in Punjab was deteriorating day by day.
Hayer said that earlier the Akali Dal had started the tradition of terrorising the people with the help of hooliganism and now Captain Amarinder Singh had taken on the responsibility of hooliganism to play the role of the head of every mafia.
He further said that Chief Minister Amarinder Singh should take moral responsibility for failing to maintain law and order in Punjab. He demanded that Captain Amarinder Singh, who had failed to maintain law and order in the state should immediately resign.
