June 12: Punjab Congress president and Ludhiana MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has sought reopening of the Baddowal Railway Crossing, which was shut down by the railways sometime back for some unexplained reasons.
IN a letter to the Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, Warring said that the crossing, which was there for a long time has been shut by the railways, thus putting people living on two sides of the track to a lot of inconvenience and difficulties.
He wrote in the letter that the village cremation ground and a Government Senior Secondary School are located on the opposite side of the railway line. Students and residents are compelled to cross the tracks unsafely, which could potentially lead to tragic incidents, he added.
Furthermore, Warring wrote, the telephone exchange and the main bus stand of thevillage are also situated on the other side of the railway line, further compounding the daily difficulties faced by the villagers.
The Ludhiana MP said, the Panchayat of Village Baddowal has, through unanimous resolution, strongly urged the railway authorities to permanently reopen the railway crossing to ensure the safety and convenience of the public.
Warring urged the minister to consider this matter seriously and take appropriate action to permanently open the said railway crossing at the earliest possible time.
