Actor Vivek Oberoi has responded to Salman Khan’s recent stand against social media trolling, saying he would rather focus on positive aspects of life than revisit negativity surrounding their past.
In an exclusive conversation with IANS, Vivek was asked about the continuing discussions and trolling involving Salman.
“There are so many things in life to do positive, why should we do negative, why should we talk?” Vivek said.
Salman recently spoke out against online trolling during an episode of Bigg Boss, questioning why people spend time targeting others instead of focusing on their own lives and families.
The actor also defended women against body-shaming after pregnancy, in an apparent reference to the trolling faced by his close friend and former co-star Katrina Kaif over changes in her weight following childbirth.
Without naming Katrina, Salman questioned why a woman should be targeted for gaining weight after giving birth. He said weight gain during and after pregnancy is normal and noted that she could return to fitness when she resumes working, while also suggesting that she may currently want to spend time with her family.
Salman further criticised the online culture of body- and age-shaming celebrities, describing such trolling as unnecessary and “dirty”.
Vivek and Salman have been linked in public discussions for more than two decades following their highly publicised fallout in 2003. At the time, Vivek, who was associated with Aishwarya Rai, held a press conference alleging that Salman had repeatedly called and threatened him over his relationship with her. Aishwarya had reportedly previously dated Salman.
Vivek has spoken over the years about moving beyond that difficult period and focusing on the positive aspects of his life.
His latest comments similarly centred on avoiding negativity rather than revisiting the long-running controversy surrounding the two actors.
