The Vasant Dada Sugar Institute (VSI) of Pune would render technical assistance of every nature to the State of Punjab in the financial resurgence of the Punjab sugar mills besides lending helping hand in bolstering sugarcane farming and producing sugar and other products from sugarcane.
The decision was taken during the marathon meeting, Cooperation Minister, Punjab, S. Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa held with the Director General VSI Mr. Shivaji Rao Deshmukh during his visit to Pune.
The delegation from Punjab led by S. Randhawa during the meeting said that the Cooperation Department is leaving no stone unturned to increase the yield of sugarcane crop and making the sugar mills financially sound.
For this reason, assistance from V. S. I. is needed. The project related to strengthening as well as renovating the Batala and Gurdaspur sugar mills. Apart from this, a sugar institute at Kalanaur is proposed for which the help from VSI is required. The demand put forward by the Punjab delegation was aceeded to by Mr. Deshmukh.
Divulging more, S. Randhawa said that sugarcane cultivation is the most potent factor in crop diversification concept and the strengthening as well as capacity increasing of the sugar mills.
He also added that new hi end technology is the need of the hour to manufacture not only sugar from sugarcane but other products such as Ethanol, Cogeneration, Bio CNG and Bio Manure. In this aspect, the technical help from VSI can prove to be a boon for the sugar mills of Punjab.
The delegation from Punjab also included Chairman Sugarfed Mr. Amrik Singh Aliwal, Registrar Cooperative Societies Mr. Vikas Garg, MD Sugarfed Mr. Punit Goyal, Director National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories, New Delhi Mr. Manjit Singh Hambran and General Managers of the Cooperative sugar mills of Punjab. The delegation also visited the VSI institute.
