USA Sikh Sangat to get Solar Power System installed at Darbar Sahib and other Gurdwaras at a cost of Rs.8-crore

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Bibi Jagir Kaur on Monday held a meeting with a delegation of Sikh sangat that arrived from California, United States of America (USA), regarding installation of solar power system at the complex of Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib, Sri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar and other gurdwaras in Amritsar.

SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur said after exploring all the technical feasibility it has been decided that 1 megawatt (MW) solar power system will be installed at the roofs of the buildings associated with Sri Darbar Sahib complex and other Gurdwaras at a cost of about Rs 8 crore by the USA Sikh sangat.

Bibi Jagir Kaur said that after the SGPC decided to install solar power system at Sri Darbar Sahib, S. Rachhpal Singh Dhindsa, chairperson United Sikh Mission, California, USA had offered to take up this task and the same was accepted.

Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “In a meeting today, it is discussed that the project of installing a solar power system at Sri Darbar Sahib complex will be completed in three to four months. It has been decided that a 1MW solar power system will be installed at the roofs of buildings associated with Sri Darbar Sahib. This task has been assigned to United Sikh Mission and Sikh Lens Foundation, both of California, USA.

This 1MW solar power plant would produce about 14 lakh units of electricity per year and it will reduce electricity expenses of SGPC at Sri Darbar Sahib by about 50% i.e. about Rs 1 crore. ”

SGPC president also said that in the near future, these solar power systems will also be installed at Takht Sahibans and other outside gurdwaras of the SGPC.

Bibi Jagir Kaur said the selected organisations of USA will completely take care of the solar power system installation at Sri Darbar Sahib complex and other Gurdwaras in Amritsar including Gurdwara Shaheed Ganj Baba Deep Singh.

Before this, the SGPC president held a meeting at her office with a delegation of Sikhs from USA including S. Rachhpal Singh Dhindsa and S. Vicky Singh president Sikh Lens Foundation and members of coordination committee for installing solar power system including coordinator S. Baldev Singh Kang, technical experts S. Balaur Singh director retired PEDA (Punjab Energy Development Agency) and Dr MP Singh retired dean Punjab Technical University (PTU), and S. Ranjit Singh and S. Avtar Singh.

Thanking the Sikh sangat of the USA, Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “We are thankful to the Sikh sangat settled abroad and the devoted Sikhs have especially come from California and offered their sewa at Sri Darbar Sahib.

The Sikhs following the Gurus’ teachings are taking out their dasvandh and contributing the same to provide better facilities to the sangat at Gurdwaras. We will learn from Sikhs of the USA and look forward to continuous support from their organisations for the chardi kala (high spirits) of Sikh panth.”

Meanwhile, S. Rachhpal Singh of United Sikh Mission said, “We feel blessed and are thankful to Guru Ramdas Sahib Ji for blessing us with the sewa of installation of solar systems at Sri Darbar Sahib. We also thank SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur for giving us this opportunity.

The Sikhs settled abroad are eager to do sewa. We have completed the study to install the solar power plant. We received proposals from seven top solar companies based in India and the same is being discussed.

We look forward to completing the project in about three to four months. We request Sikh sangat settled abroad to contribute to the sewa of Guru Ghars with their dasvandh.”

During the meeting, S. Vicky Singh of Sikh Lens Foundation presented a set of books to SGPC Bibi Jagir Kaur with information of gurdwaras and Sikh heritage in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

On this occasion, senior vice-president S. Surjit Singh Bhitewad, SGPC member Bhai Manjit Singh, S. Amrik Singh Vichhoya, S. Gurmeet Singh Booh, assistant secretary S. Kulwinder Singh Ramdas, Sri Darbar Sahib manager S. Gurinder Singh Mathrewal, OSD Dr Sukhbir Singh, superintendent S. Malkit Singh Baherwal, supervisor Major Singh and others were present.
