Upjit Singh Sachdeva (Jeety), the Honorary Consul General of India, welcomed Ram Nath Kovind, President of India at Gbessia International Airport in Republic of Guinea’s capital city of Conakry.
Sachdeva is a celebrated social and business personality and the Honorary Consul General of India in Liberia.
President Ram Nath Kovind arrived in Guinea on Thursday on the third leg of his three-nation visit to the West African region.
President Kovind was accorded a ceremonial welcome with military honour at the Conakry International Airport.
He was received by President of Guinea Alpha Conde along with other dignitaries.
This is the first-ever state visit by an Indian President to Guinea.
Sachdeva who hails from Jalandhar in Punjab was awarded Pravasi Bharatiya Sanmaan during 9th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas held from 7-9 January 2011 at New Delhi. Pratibha Devi Singh Patil, the then President of India conferred the prestigious award on Sachdeva and 14 other dignitaries from Indian diaspora.
In July 2011, Sachdeva was conferred upon Liberia’s highest award ‘Knight Grand Commander’ by the then Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf as the country celebrated its 164th Independence Day. The award was presented to Sachdeva at a special function held at historic city Voinjama, some 400 kms from Liberian Capital Monrovia.
