Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today said Punjab was in the grip of a strong anti-incumbency against the Amarinder govt and the CM was facing a humiliating defeat in his home constituency Patiala.
Addressing massive public gatherings in Jalandhar and Khadoor Sahib constituencies, Mr Badal also came down heavily against Amarinder’s attempts to shift blame for his failure to ensure smooth procurement of wheat on delay of delivery of gunny bags to Punjab.”
“The farmers of Punjab are paying the price of Amarinder’ s criminal neglect of a crucial operation like procurement which is is a question of life and death for the farmers. Amarinder kept sleeping and remained busy with his own pursuits.His govt did not even ask for the funny bags till January.
During the SAD BJP government, we used to place the order latest by November, that is nearly five to six months before the start of the procurement operations. It takes that long for gunny bags to be arranged and delivered and Amarinder knows this. Why did his government delay the requisition? ” asked Mr Badal.
Mr Badal said that there was no such thing as a government in Punjab as Amarinder had remained invisible for the past two years. “He has been in the news for reasons other than what he was elected for”. Mr Badal said the poor and middle classes in the state were reeling under the impact of hiked electricity tariffs and inflated power bills.
He asked the farmers to prepare for tubewell bills to be reimposed immediately after the Lok Sabha election.
Mr Badal said that the Congress had promised the moon before the assembly elections. “Amarinder took the extreme and sacrilegious step of making promises on a false oath of Gutka sahib and of the sacred charan of Shri Guru Gobind Singh ji Maharaj.
But once in government, he not only went back on all these promises but even stopped all the facilities that the SAD BJP govt had introduced for the farmers, traders and the poor people of the state.
There is no Shagun now, no pensions, no atta daal, no free medical care of Rs 50,000, no suvidha kendras, no free cycles for school girls, no free uniforms, no sports kits for the youth – the lust is endless. Punjabis will never forgive this broad daylight sacrilege by Amarinder,” said the SAD president. He said the SAD-BJP under Parkash Singh Badal devoted day and night to heritage preservation, while Captain seems to have no time for such things.
