Chandigarh, April 16, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) state unit president and parliamentarian Bhagwant Mann has reiterated his appeal to Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make special arrangements for safe return of thousands of Punjabis stranded in other states of the country due to the extended lockdown, saying their problems had aggravated manifold as the harvesting operations of the Rabi crops had already begun.

In a statement issued from party headquarters on Thursday, Bhagwant Mann said: “Hundreds of phone calls and messages are received by me and other Aam Aadmi Party MLAs, day in and day out, from truck drivers, combine operators and owners, businessmen stranded in some other states of the country seeking help for their safe return home. He said that if the Government of the country could bring back its citizens from other countries through special planes, why couldn’t special arrangements be made to bring back those stuck in other states of the country?

The AAP MP said that during the first phase of the nationwide lockdown, we had been, on our own, advising those Punjabis who were stuck in other states to stay put wherever they were, but the second phase of the lockdown had brought a trail of traumas for them for many reasons than one, the major being te big worry of the ongoing harvesting season of the Rabi crop while others had health issues.

Mann said that Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh should immediately take up the issue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Railway Minister, for issuance of special passes for inter-state trucks and combines, besides special pass facilities to pilgrims stuck at various religious places, including Sri Hazur Sahib, adding that arrangement should be me sanitized trains and buses facilitating their safe return, besides extending the pass facility to the personal vehicles.

Mann suggested that the coronavirus test be made mandatory for those stuck during their departure and arrival in the state, saying that they should not be allowed to languish in the respective states till the extended lockdown period ending May 3.
