Teams of Punjab Agriculture Dept check 40 roadside jaggery manufacturing units

To ensure manufacturing of quality and safe jaggery in the state, the teams of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department conducted the inspection of 40 roadside jaggery manufacturing units in the district.

The teams led by Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Nazar Singh closely monitored the production process in the units. The teams asked the jaggery manufacturers to not to keep the Jaggery for sale open on roadside which leads to exposure of produce to flies, dust, dirt and pollution which lowers the quality of jaggery.

Divulging the details, Dr Nazar Singh said that Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) had already imparted training to the jaggery manufacturers for producing safe and quality product under Mission Tandarust Punjab.

Mr Singh stated that the training is aimed on the enhancing the quality and hygiene of the produce by ensuring chemical free manufacturing.

He told that the teams exhorted the manufacturers to keep the jaggery in glass jars or air tight boxes for the sale and use high standards while manufacturing including proper cleanliness around the unit, using hand gloves and others.

He said that these measures will not only improve the quality of the jaggery but also increase the income of the owners as people love to buy safe and healthy products.

They were also asked to get the required registration or license from Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.

Meanwhile, Agriculture Officer Dr Naresh Gulati, Assistant Cane Development Officer Dr Balbir Chand, Agriculture Development Officer Dr Amrik Singh, ATMA Project Director Mr Vikram Sood, Deputy Project directors Mr Vipul Chabra and Ms Ramandeep Kaur and others were also part of teams and checked the units in the various blocks of the district.
