As part of the Swachh Survekshan under Swachh Bharat Mission, Fazilka city has topped the chart in the list of cities in North Zone of the country besides Abohar Municipal Corporation has adjudged on second place in terms of cleanliness in Punjab.
Congratulating the both Fazilka Municipal Council, Abohar Municipal Corporation and residents, Deputy Commissioner Mr Manpreet Singh Chhatwal said that it is matter of great honour of the district and we must continue to show such spirit in making the district leading in the state.
He said that Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh come in the North Zone part of the country.
Mr Chhatwal told that the Survekshan was carried out from June 1,2019 to October 31,2019 in Fazilka and the city was listed in cities having population from 50,000 to 1 lakh. Similarly, Abohar MC was added in more than 10 lakh population category, he added.
He appealed the people of district to ensure dry and wet waste segregation at the source point. He also exhorted the people to shun the use of plastic as this only pollutes the environment and create several problems in ensuring clean and green environment.
Executive Officer Mr Rajneesh Kumar also appealed the people to not to use plastic or disposables during langar or other programs. He said that Fazilka Municipal Council has set up a Steel Bartan Bhandar (Utensils Store) and anyone can take utensils at free of cost.
