Urging Centre to immediate scrap three contentious farm laws, Punjab Technical Education, Tourism & Cultural Affairs and Employment Generation Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Tuesday demanded that these anti-farmers laws be suspended without any further delay in interest of country’s peasantry.
Unfurling the national flag here at local Police Lines Ground on district level function of the 72nd Republic Day, Charanjit Singh Channi pointed out that the Centre should resolve the issues of farmers’ amicably instead of imposing farm laws forcibly on them, which was nothing else of sheer harassment for farmers.
Today all of us are celebrating the historic day, when our Constitution implemented on January 26 in 1950, but today we are facing varied challenges to be safeguard the constitutional values, said the Minister adding that Agriculture is the State subject as per the Constitution and Centre should avoid its unnecessary intervention besides resolving farm issues on priority basis.
Reiterating that Punjab Government is always stood by the cause of farmers, Channi said that Captain Amarinder Singh led State Government had already waived off farm loans to the tune of Rs 4610 crore of nearly 5.63 lakh small and marginal farmers across Punjab.
After unfurling flag, inspecting parade and taking salute from March Past, the Minister while referring to media queries said that Punjab Government had already initiated tourism projects worth Rs 500 crore. He said that with the completion of these projects, the tourism sector in Punjab would emerge as a leading destination on the tourism map.
The Minister said that phenomenal strides were being taken place in tourism sector with the renovation and facelift of historic as well as heritage buildings on the one hand while developing new tourist sites having massive tourist attraction.
On the present plight of Floating Restaurant Sirhind, the Minister said that the construction of new highway had adversely impacted the attraction to this significant site on national highway as the work of approach road leading to this place was hit the movement of commuters. He assured that Punjab Government was contemplating to revive this site again, which would be Centre of attraction for locals especially the travellers on national highway.
Revealing that the State Government has already released Rs. 103 crore for Minar-e-Begumpura project at Sri Khuralgarh Sahib, Charanjit Singh Channi said that the work on this project had restarted. He informed that the project would be completed by September this.
Referring to the appointments of staff in Polytechnic and ITIs, Technical Education Minister said the almost all vacancies had been filled in polytechnics while the Department had already written to Government for filling the posts in the ITIs across the state. More than one lakh jobs will be provided to the unemployed youth in the state, said the Minister.
Earlier, the Minister accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Apneet Riyait, SSP Navjot Singh Mahal and Parade Commander Gurpreet Singh Gill inspected the parade and took salute from impressive march past comprising of four continents of Punjab Police, PRTC Jahan Khelan, Punjab Police (Women) and NCC.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included Mukerian MLA Indu Bala, District and Sessions Judge Amarjot Bhatti, District Congress President Dr Kuldeep Nanda, Improvement Trust Chief Advocate Rakesh Marwaha and others.

On the occasion of the 72nd Republic Day, Technical Education Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Tuesday felicitated 57 doctors/health workers, police personnel and others for their remarkable services in different fields especially during the COVID-19 crisis.

DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION HONOURS FAMILY MEMBERS OF FREEDOM FIGHTERS AT THEIR DOORSTEPS:
The local Administration on Tuesday depute officers of Rural Development and Panchayats Department to honour the family members of various freedom fighters at their doorsteps in view of COVID-19 directions and protocols. As many as 30 families of freedom fighters were presented a shawl (lohi) and box of sweets in Hoshiarpur 1 & 2 Blocks besides Mahilpur and Bhunga blocks.
Deputy Commissioner Apneet Riyait informed that adhering the COVID-19 guidelines, this initiative had been ensured to honour freedom fighters’ families on the occasion of 72nd Republic Day.
