Surjit Hockey Tournament – Punjab & Sind Bank enters finals

Punjab & Sind Bank Delhi entered the finals of 36th Indian Oil Servo surjit Hockey Tournament by beating holders Army XI by 5-4 through penalty Shoot out in the first semi finals at Olympain Surjit Hockey Stadium here today. At the end of stipulated time both teams were leveled at 1-1. Today’s chief guest Ch.

Santokh Singh MP announced grant of Rs 10 Lakh for the Surjit Hockey Society. According to him the old Astroturf of Surjit Hockey Stadium will be changed next year by Punjab Government.

In the first semi finals Punjab & Sind Bank Delhi played a conrolled game. In the 6th minute of the play Bank got the lead when International Gaganpreet Singh converted the first penalty corner (1-0).

After that Bank players made some good moves but not able to increase lead. At half time Bank was leading by 1-0. After lemon break in 31st minute Army’s Rahul Rathee equalized from the lovely pass of Jitender Rathee (1-1). In 33rd minute Bank earned a penalty stroke but their captain Santa Singh not able to utilize it.

At the end of stipulated time both teams were locked at 1-1. The decision of match done through penalty Shoot out, which goes in favour of Punjab & Sind Bank by 4-3. For Bank Gaganpreet Singh, Harmanjit Singh, Jaskaran Singh and Santa Singh. For Army Rajant Rajput, Sanjay Toppo and Rahul Rathee scored.
