Nitin Kohli, Vice President of Hockey India, President of Hockey Punjab, and In-charge of Aam Admi Party, Jalandhar (Central) Assembly Constituency lauded the Surjit Hockey Society for its significant contribution to the development of hockey and its players.
According to Iqbal Singh Sandhu, CEO of Surjit Hockey Society, during the closing ceremony of the annual Surjit Summer Hockey Coaching Camp-2025 held at Surjit Hockey Stadium, Burlton Park, Jalandhar, Nitin Kohli, as the Chief Guest, honored over 200 players aged 4-16 years and their coaches.
Nitin Kohli praised the Surjit Hockey Society, established in 1984 in memory of former Indian hockey Captain Olympian Surjit Singh, for its remarkable contributions to hockey and player development over the past 41 years.
During the event, he specially felicitated the players and coaches who participated in the camp, stating that this coaching camp is a significant step toward preparing young players for national and international competitions.
Nitin Kohli said that the government will construct two new Astroturf hockey grounds including a five-a-side ground at Burlton Park, Jalandhar within the current financial year. This will enable Jalandhar to host international-level hockey competitions. He further stated that he would discuss with Hockey India to propose hosting international matches in Jalandhar next year.
Rajwinder Kaur, Halqa In-charge of Aam Aadmi Party, Jalandhar (Cantonment) and Chairman of the Improvement Trust, Jalandhar, congratulated the participating players and their parents, emphasizing that their participation in this hockey coaching camp is a vital part of the government’s ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign.
This initiative encourages youth to engage in sports, promoting a healthy lifestyle.The ceremony was attended by Surjit Hockey Society’s General Secretary Surinder Singh Bhapa, Secretary Ranbir Singh Tutt, Finance Secretary Randeep Gupta, Yudhvir Singh Joni, Professor Balwinder Singh, Pardeep Kaur, Sita Devi, Naresh Kumar, Bindu, Jatinder Singh, and Navjot Singh (all coaches).
