Sunil Jakhar’s nephew Ajay Vir Jakhar resigns as Chairman of Punjab State Farmers Commission

Chandigarh, September 20, 2021 (Yes Punjab News)
Ajay Vir Jakhar has resigned as Chairman of Punjab State Farmers and Farm Workers Commission after former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh’s resignation.

The information was shared by Ajay Vir himself on Twitter.

He said, ‘Have tendered my resignation as Chairman, Punjab State Farmers and Farm Workers Commission due to the changed circumstances in the state.”

Ajay Vir-led Farmers Commission had drafted a farmers’ policy and submitted it to the government in 2018 but Amarinder Government sat on the report and kept it pending till Amarinder resigned as Chief Minister.

A progressive farmer from Fazilka, Ajay Vir is the nephew of former Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar and the grandson of former Lok Sabha speaker Balram Jakhar. His father Sajjan Kumar Jakhar remained a minister of state.

He is also the Chairman of a farmers’ NGO Bharat Krishak Samaj which was floated by his grandfather Balram Jakhar in 1955.

He was appointed as Chairman of Punjab State Farmers and Farm Workers Commission in April 2017 by Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh after he took over as Chief Minister in March, 2017.
