Sumedh Saini Arrested – Former Punjab DGP held in a corruption case by Vigilance Bureau

Chandigarh, August 18, 2021 (Yes Punjab News)
Punjab’s controversial former top cop Sumedh Saini was Wednesday arrested by Vigilance Bureau in a corruption case.

Saini had gone to Vigilance Bureau Office in Mohali on the directions of High Court to join investigation in a case related to forged documents regarding residential premises where he lives in Chandigarh.

Saini had approached the High Court recently in the case registered against him regarding his posh Kothi in UT Chandigarh. The High Court had granted him interim bail, but asked him to join the investigation.

The Vigilance Bureau arrested Saini as he walked into Vigilance Office but under a new case. The new case registered by VB as FIR No. 13 is said to be related to a recruitment scam. It has been learnt that Saini was booked under charges of corruption in the Constable Recruitment Scam.

It has also been learned that Saini’s legal team and his security personnel had accompanied Saini to the office of Vigilance Bureau but they were told that Saini has been arrested in a fresh case. However, Saini’s legal team refused to leave and the security personnel attached to Saini also said that they would wait for written orders from their seniors as they were responsible for Saini’s security. The security personnel refused to leave on verbal orders.

Sources said Saini could be presented in a court of law by the Vigilance Bureau on Wednesday.

It may be recalled that recently a huge team of Vigilance Bureau had raided Saini’s residence in Chandigarh in connection with a case of documents related to the said property. The VB team was initially not allowed into the residence. The team was later allowed to enter but Saini was not found at his home. The VB team, however, conducted searches and investigated the matter then and there for almost entire night.

Saini is also named in 2015 Kotkapura firing incident which is related to cases of sacrilege. He was however granted bail by the Supreme Court.

The former DGP is also an accused in case related to disappearance and murder of former CITCO JE Balwant Singh Multani, son of a former IAS officer. Saini, however, had got bail in this matter too.
