The Shiromani Akali Dal today ended the suspense regarding Bathinda and Ferozerpur seats.
Former Chief Minister and SAD patron Parkash Singh Badal this morning announced the tickets.
SAD chief and former Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal will be party candidate from Ferozepur while his wife and Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal would be recontesting the Bathinda Lok Sabha seat.
Harsimrat Badal will be fighting against Congress’ Gidderbaha MLA and former Indian Youth Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and Punjab Ekta Party chief Sukhpal Singh Khaira.
Sukhbir Badal will be locked in a contest with sitting Ferozepur MP Sher Singh Ghubaya who had fallen apart with Badals and joined Congress recently in the presence of AICC Chief Rahul Gandhi.
In a statement released at the party headquarters, party’s senior vice president and spokesperson, Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema said that there was a strong demand seeking SAD president to contest from Parliamentary constituency of Firozpur from in charges of various assembly constituencies including associate organizations and party workers falling under the LS constituency.
He said that besides respecting the sentiments of party leaders and workers, Badal Sahib took personal opinion of senior leadership and core committee members on this matter as well. The Core committee members maintained that party president himself being in poll fray would not only send a positive message to the rank and file but also improve prospects of the party in the parliamentary polls.
Dr. Cheema added that after taking a final opinion of leaders and workers of both alliance partners of Firozpur LS constituency last night, Badal sahib announced S. Sukhbir Singh Badal as SAD candidate for LS constituency Firozpur.
Dr. Cheema further added that similarly Mrs. Harsimrat Kaur Badal has been announced as the party candidate for LS constituency, Bathida after taking into view her incredible performance as a cabinet minister who ushered this constituency into a fast growing region by bringing major central projects including prestigious AIIMS project. Badal Sahib decided to re-field Biba ji from the Bathinda seat as the party leaders, workers and common man were all pressing for it.
