Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today condemned the double standards adopted by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in allowing meetings with under trials and convicts in Punjab jails.
The SAD president met former minister Bikram Singh Majithia in the district jail here along with Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Ganieve Kaur Majithia. He said it was shocking that an AAP legislator who was imprisoned for molesting a Dalit woman as well as police officers convicted for staging fake encounters were being allowed to meet all and sundry without any restrictions even as hurdles were put in the way of meeting Bikram Majithia who was only an under trial.
Speaking with newsmen, Mr Sukhbir Badal said “today after 3 months the family members of former minister Bikram Singh Majithia have been finally allowed to meet the jailed leader freely”. He said while there were no rules for convicts associated with AAP, in case of Mr Majithia
his wife Ganieve Kaur Majithia and sister Harsimrat Kaur Badal had been able to meet him only once while the Akali leader’s counsel had met him only twice in three months.
Speaking about Mr Majithia’s condition, the SAD president said the Akali leader was in ‘Chardhi Kala’. He said he was saying this because those who thought they could break Bikram’s spirit and will power by implicating him in a false case would be very disappointed. “Bikram Majithja has become a hundred times more stronger in keeping with Akali traditions of standing up to tyranny bravely”.
Mr Badal while speaking about police officers who were breaking the law by becoming hatchet men of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, said these officers should be aware that they would face the consequences once AAP was booted out from Punjab in 2027.
“Officers like Patiala SSP Varun Sharma, who is registering false cases against the opposition and has been given a free hand to loot the people, will be held accountable for their illegal acts. We have information about each and every corrupt activity of Mr Varun Sharma. Anybody who breaks his oath to give justice to all should be ready to face the consequences”, Mr Badal added.
