Aam Aadmi Party, Punjab, senior leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP), Harpal Singh Cheema has accused SAD (Badal) president and Member of Parliament, of spreading misinformation on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill among the people of the state.
In a statement issued from party headquarters in Chandigarh on Wednesday, Harpal Singh Cheema said “The Badal family speaks different languages in their own constituency, in Chandigarh and in Delhi, which speaks of their double face”, saying that Sukhbir Singh Badal was carrying forward the family legacy of maintaining double standards.
Cheema further added that on the issue of Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, Sukhbir Badal and his wife and union minister, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, along with Rajya Sabha members of the SAD, had voted in favour of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, saying that why was he shedding crocodile tears now when he had already cast his vote in favour of the Bill?
Terming the Bill as ill-conceived, aimed at dividing the country, Cheema said it was an attempt on the part of the government to mar the centuries old mutual bonhomie and communal harmony among diverse communities.
Taking a swipe at Sukhbir Badal and Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Cheema said that the Badal couple and the representative of the Akali Dal (Badal) in the Rajya Sabha, had voted in favour of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill to appease their allies and to save the ministerial berth of the Badal ‘bahu’ by compromising on the basic principles the Shiromani Akali Dal.
