Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President and Ferozepur mp Sukhbir Singh Badal today announced that he would provide Rs one crore from his MPLAD fund for provision of one ventilator in all government hospitals in Ferozepur parliamentary constituency even as he requested chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh to ensure there was no discrimination in distributing food items to the poor and need on the basis of political affiliations.
In a statement here, the SAD President said following reports that there was a severe shortage of ventilators in all government hospitals in Ferozepur, he had decided to release money from his MPLAD funds for the same. He said the money would be put at the disposal of the Deputy Commissioner who would make provisions for the quick purchase of ventilators at all the government hospitals to ensure they were adequately equipped to deal with Caronavirus patients as and when needed.
Meanwhile Mr Sukhbir Badal also requested the chief minister to ensure there was no discrimination in the distribution of dry ration to the poor and needy. He said there were very disturbing reports that Congress legislators were commandeering Deputy Commissioners and Sub Divisional Magistrates and accompanying them to distribute rations to their supporters. “A backlash has already started against such politicization of relief operations with people even expressing their anger at Congressmen.
This has the potential to snowball into a major law and order problem. I request you to direct all Deputy Commissioners not to distribute food material as per dictates of Congress leaders. The Deputy Commissioners should not allow this exercise to be politicized and should distribute the food material to those who were most in need of it.
They can make use of help lines as well as social and welfare organizations to distribute the material to the most deserving”.
The SAD President also requested the chief minister to take note of the fact that despite announcements and reassurances given by him, food material was not reaching those in need of it. “Widespread protests have already started in this regard. It seems that the relief which is being sent by the government to the field is being waylaid by unscrupulous elements. Strict action should be taken against these nefarious persons, howsoever high they may be”, Mr Badal added.
In a separate message to the SAD cadre, Mr Sukhbir Badal asked all legislators, constituency sewadars, district presidents and Circle Presidents to identify poor people in villages and wards who were in need of food material. “This information should be shared with the district administration and simultaneously all efforts should be made at the party and personal level to provide immediate relief to them”.
