Sukhbir Badal appeals PM to install busts of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru at India Gate

Chandigarh, September 13, 2022 (Yes Punjab News)
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to install busts of revolutionary freedom fighters – Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru at India Gate to commemorate their supreme sacrifice as well as their role in igniting the spirit of freedom.

In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the SAD president said Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Hari Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar were symbols of a new India unfettered in every way. “The supreme sacrifice of the trio as well as their indomitable spirit and love for the motherland continues to be an inspiration for millions of Indians.

It would be most befitting if the nation recognizes this sacrifice and honours the contribution made by them in instilling the spirit of patriotism among countless Indians by installing their busts at India Gate”.

Mr Sukhbir Badal said the three martyrs were true sons of the soil who initiated revolutionary activities to avenge the death of Lala Lajpat Rai who was killed after being ‘lathi charged’ during a peaceful protest against the Simon Commission in 1928. He said Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh’s symbolic bombing of the Central Assembly hall in Delhi in 1929 was also unique as he threw leaflets asserting “it takes a loud noise to make the deaf hear”.

He said the trio became living legends during their lifetimes with Bhagat Singh even explaining the rationale behind his acts from jail besides refusing to apologize for them or file for an appeal. “The mighty British empire was forced to even prepone their execution which was done secretly to escape public wrath”.

Asserting that the nation would always be grateful to the great martyrs, Mr Badal said their revolutionary acts lighted the spark which became a flame in a short period of time and spread across the length and breadth of the country like wildfire. “We owe Bhagat Singh and his compatriots a lot for inspiring Indians to yearn for freedom and finally take it. It is also our duty to repay them for their sacrifice by giving them the recognition they deserve”, Mr Badal added.
