State level virtual training workshop on ‘One Stop Sakhi Centre’ stresses need of intensive awareness campaign

To strengthen the process of protecting the rights of women victims of violence, the Punjab Social Security, Women and Child Development Department is organizing a week long state level virtual training workshop on ‘one stop sakhi centre’ in two phases.

In the first phase of virtual training conducted from 10th to 12th February, Mrs. Raji P. Shrivastava, Principal Secretary, Social Security, Women and Child Development said that the purpose of this workshop is to ensure that the OSC staff in Punjab is sensitized and brought up to date with various acts, legislations/policies, standard operating procedures, role of other departments and critical response handling of sensitive cases related to violence against women.

“The Workshop is following an actor-specific needs approach wherein the focus was on identifying the roles and responsibilities of each staff member in an OSC and training them based on their specific learning requirements. The topic and theme for each session was curated for specific staff members and was conducted by specialists in these areas” she said.

Speaking on the occasion, Director Mr. Vipul Ujjwal said that we hope that after this training workshop, the OSC Staff will be able to sensitively handle all cases of violence against women and provide moral as well as institutional support to the aggrieved women; create a safe space for women where they feel protected and secure; understand and implement the latest amendments and updates in various laws/constitutional provisions/policies etc. relating to violence against women; understand the health needs and rights of aggrieved women, respond appropriately in a sensitive and non-discriminatory manner; counsel the aggrieved women and help them feel safe and heard.

During three day virtual training, Dr. Mandeep Mittal, Additional District & Sessions Judge-cum-Additional Member Secretary of Punjab State Legal Services Authority (PULSA), Mr. Ghanshyam Thori, Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar, Ms. Apneet Riyait, Deputy Commissioner Hoshiarpur, Ms. Ujjwala Kadrekar, Consultant, UN Population Fund (UNFPA) and OXFAM India, Dr. Jupaka Madhavi, WHO National Project on Elimination for Violence Against Women (EVAW) Projects and Ms. Anuja Gulati, Consultant, UN Population Fund (UNFPA) spoke on various issues pertaining to women, their rights, health issues and compensation schemes.
