Sri Guru Gobind Singh Skill Institute at Sri Chamkaur Sahib to be Joint Venture of IIT Rupnagar & IKGPTU: Channi

The Punjab Government has decided to run the courses in the Sri Guru Gobind Singh Skill Institute at Sri Chamkaur Sahib, Rupnagar as a joint venture of IKGPTU and IIT Rupnagar. This was in principle approved during a meeting held at IIT, Rupnagar under the chairmanship of Technical Education and Industrial Training Minister Mr. Charanjit Singh Channi.

The meeting was held to review consultancy and execution of Civil Work of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Skill Institute at Sri Chamkaur Sahib, Rupnagar.

After the meeting the Technical Education Minister disclosed that the pass out students would be awarded a joint certification by IKGPTU and IIT, Rupnagar. He said that it was unanimously decided to start the first batch of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Institute from the academic session 2020-21 at the temporary site of IIT Ropar provisional campus on Manali Road, Ropar.

‘Regarding intake of students in the first academic year it was decided to initially start the 10 units of courses with 30 students in each unit and thus making the intake of 300 students in the first year’ added Channi.

The Minister further said that the IIT, Rupnagar would also work as mentor for setting up of the Skill Development University Sri Chamkaur Sahib. He said that it was decided that IIT Rupnagar would provide roadmap and guidelines for setting up of the infrastructure, labs, human resource, academics and curriculum of the Skill University.
