South Asian seniors celebrate Diwali in UK

MidKent College, Gillingham, November 9, 2022 (Yes Punjab News)
On Saturday 5th November, South Asian seniors came together to celebrate Diwali in style and colour.

The group is part of Sahara, a voluntary initiative that aims to reduce the health and social inequalities faced by older residents of South Asian origin.

Attendees let loose as renowned Bollywood dance school led them in standing and chair-based dance. The day also included a diverse Indian buffet, colourful photoshoots and a raffle. Service users were joined by Kent-based business and service providers that have supported Sahara throughout the year, including Medway Public Health, Lena & Fitter and Kent & Medway Prehab.

“It was really heartwarming to feel the happy energy in the room. It’s so good to see people learning a new skill, with the biggest smiles!” said one attendee.

Sahara provides support for older South Asian people and carers by offering social events, accessible exercise, information and signposting.
